Ladder Philosophy
The purpose of Construx’s professional ladder is to embed Construx’s corporate values into our promotion and reward structure so that Construx employees can clearly see our recommended road to promotion and self-improvement. The ladder also supports equality in compensation among current and future employees. All technical employees will be assigned a ladder level.
Level descriptions are based upon technical skill, judgment, productivity, maturity, contribution to Construx, and contribution to the field of software engineering.
Ladder Progression
Ladder levels go from 8 to 15. New employees (college graduates) will generally start at Level 9. Experienced developers may start at Level 10 or 11. Level 12 is full professional status, and most professionals within Construx will choose not to go beyond this level. Levels 13-15 can only be achieved by making significant, innovative contributions both to Construx and within the field of software engineering. These levels require an exceptionally strong commitment to the field of software engineering, even for a Construx engineer.
Development Priorities at Different Ladder Levels
The descriptions show what we value:
- Levels 8-10 Acquire proficiency in fundamental skills of excellent software development.
- Level 11 Make significant contributions to individual projects and acquire professional-level skills in Construx software engineering.
- Level 12 Provide significant leadership to individual projects and make regular, strong contributions to Construx. Perform as a professional software engineer.
- Levels 13-15 Make extraordinary contributions to Construx and significant or extraordinary contributions to the field of software engineering.
An employee is expected to perform within the standards of a new level for at least 6 months before a promotion to that level is given. Consistent performance for longer periods of time will be required before promotions are given into Levels 13 and higher. Employees will normally be notified that they will be receiving a grade level promotion at the performance review prior to the review at which they actually receive the promotion.
